On January 1, 1857, the Christian Brothers opened a school in Eblana Avenue in Dun Laoghaire, which prospered to such an extent that it was impossible to accommodate both primary and secondary departments in the nineteenth century buildings. As well, in 1949 the Brothers acquired the land near Monkstown Park, which had recently been occupied by a Protestant school. The High School Department moved to Monkstown in 1950, and expanded the neo-classical building built in 1843 by Charles Haliday. In 1987 the school underwent another expansion to include new offices, a snack bar, faculty lounge and a technology department.

The school motto is "Certa Bonum Contest" (CBC) or "fight the proper fight" and the school colors are red, black and yellow. From the beginning, the boys played rugby as team principal of the college sports competition, and to be a relatively small school has achieved great success, winning the Leinster Senior Cup in 1976 and reaching the final in 1984 and winning in the League Cup Junior Level in 1998.

The main purpose of education is to contribute to the development of all aspects of the individual, including aesthetic, creative, critical, cultural, emotional, intellectual, moral, physical, political, social and spiritual development of their personal and family life, for their working lives for the community life and leisure time.

As a member of the Edmund Rice Schools Network, CBC Monkstown Park promotes faith, Christian spirituality and values based on the word of God; promotes excellence in teaching and learning and creates a supportive school community. Within this context, the mission of the school is to provide a Catholic education for children in a Christian atmosphere of solidarity, in search of a full development of personality and academic excellence.
