Newbridge College - Kildare
Newbridge College is an educative community, under the trusteeship of the Dominican Order, works to promote, in collaboration with parents and guardians, religious development, spiritual, moral, academic, aesthetic, cultural, physical, emotional and social of all students under his tutelage. The principal means of achieving this goal is the collaborative participation of students and staff in programs and curricular and extracurricular activities of the school, taking into account the aspirations and unique needs of each individual.
History and Values
The Dominican Friars founded Newbridge College in 1852 as a boarding school for boys. Today, still under the tutelage of the Dominican Friars, Newbridge College is a Christian college in the Roman Catholic tradition, aware of his Irish heritage and tradition in an increasingly united Europe. It is a mixed school by day, with day boarding options, and with a student population of about 800 students.
Since 1984, a Board of Directors, which includes representatives of the Dominican Friars, parents, alumni and faculty, has directed the college. As a Dominica School, intends to bequeath to the students not only skills to make a living, but also values for life, in ways that show respect for all that is noble and true. Recognizes that each student is provided with their unique talents and aims to provide each curricular and extracurricular opportunities that suit their skills and aspirations.
Students are instructed and helped to value things by their true worth, estimate only what is good, and approach to society generously and criticism. This is in line with Dominica tradition, which goes back to the perception of St. Dominic, who founded the Order of the pastors in 1216.
In addition, students are encouraged to acquire an appreciation of the more sophisticated aspects of life, with a special emphasis on art and music.
