John Scottus School - Dublin

John Scottus School was founded in 1986 by a group of parents who wanted their children to be educated under the focus of the philosophical principles that they were studying at the School of Philosophy and Economics in Dublin.
The educational principle which is based on John Scottus Schools is that everyone is essentially pure, perfect and complete. The provision of good material and good company are key elements that can be a personal essence connexion with which to grow. At its core, the values of the school are simple but radical: having a "spiritual dimension" as middle school educational value.
The purpose of this spiritual factor is to train children to discover their true identity and thus express their function and fully connect with humanity. With this vision, all aspects of their education and development have consistency and a significant goal that ultimately determine how they live their lives. The aim of John Scottus School vision is to provide education to all who want it, regardless of race, creed or social status.
The principles behind these values are inspired by the knowledge exhibited by Leon McLaren, founder of the philosophy of the school, following his meetings with the Indian sage Santananda Saraswati observed for a period of thirty years.
In 1999, the Elementary School received national recognition by the Education and Science department. In 2000, the School was also recognized by the Department as a Volunteer High School. Thus, both primary and secondary school are funded in part by the Education and Science department.
Although the Department funds many of the teachers from both schools, both receive financial support through voluntary contributions made by parents (Primary), payments in High School, a generous support from the School of Philosophy and various fundraising activities. High School is a school of payment.
John Scottus School is a multidenominational, but recognizes the importance of the Christian tradition that has served as the foundation for Western civilization. The school is named in honor of the Irish philosopher John Scottus Eriugena, who introduced a Platonic influence in relation to Christianity. The Socratic precept "Know yourself" and the Socratic method of inquiry are important influences for John Scottus School, which is considered part of the long European tradition of liberal education.
